XCM Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Case Mods Installation Summary
Written by John Moorhead

Ever since the debut of the Xbox 360 console and its comfortable and convenient wireless controller, people have wanted to mod and personalize their controller case. Until XCM released its first set of controller shells the options were very limited for most people, unless you had the right tools, skills and time on your hands. The first set of aftermarket controller mods / shells on the scene were only the tops of the controller case, which meant the bottom half of the controller was still its original stock white color. Personally, I didn't find this to be too appealing. But at the time it was the only option you had unless of course you had the know-how to make your own. At the same time LED mods were getting popular on the scene and people were putting leds in their controller to make some pretty cool effects. The only problem was this required really tedious soldering and obtaining several different color LEDs in order to create the desired effect.

Then Team XCM released their version of the aftermarket wireless controller cases. The nice thing with this new product was it included the top and bottom halves of the controller case and had LEDs built into the case from the factory! This meant no more awkward looking wireless controller cases with white bottoms and no more hunting around for different color leds and soldering each one of them by hand. Instead the XCM Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Kit included all the necessary tools to complete the installation (minus a soldering iron and solder) and the LEDs were built in and only required 3 wires to be soldered to get the desired effect. They even included an On/Off switch at the top in case you got tired of looking at the bright lights, or wanted to conserve the battery life.

Since the debut of the XCM Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Cases they have come out with several different colors to choose from. They are: Black, Chrome (Blue, Green, Red, Yellow LEDs), Apple Green, Translucent Green, Sexy Red, Crystal Clear, Smoke (Translucent Black), and White (Just in case you like the looks of the stock controller case but want the added LEDs!)

The installation of these cases is fairly straight forward and easy even for a novice. The only real skill required is being able to solder 3 wires to 3 pretty large points on the PCB of your controller (you must supply the guts of a wireless controller to use this mod).

Installation Summary:

Step 1: Take apart your wireless controller. The required bit driver tool is included with the kit from XCM.

Step 2: Solder the 3 wires to the PCB of your wireless controller. Be careful there are 2 versions of the wireless controllers, a v1 and v2, both have different points to solder to, so its important to identify your controller in advance to save the extra work of taking it apart and trying the other set of install diagrams.

Step 3: Reassemble your new controller case the same way you took apart your old controller. Of course you'll need to transfer over the rumble motors, but this is very easy. Snap the shell back together and put the screws back in.

Don't worry the instructions can also be found in detail on TeamXCM.com in the forums under the Xbox 360 Help Guides section. Or by visiting Extreme-Mods.com and clicking the link at the bottom to the tutorial and help guides page.

The installation should take you about 20 minutes from start to finish and when you are done you will have a new look to your controller that your friends will drool over. Just be sure to keep a towel handy ;)
